*  There was a Hazel Carmichael that came to visit Annie Carmichael in St. Fillan's, Scotland.  We know that Hazel was visiting from Nova Scotia and that her father (Duncan Carmichael b: 5 April 1858 Logie, Perthshire), worked for Lord Kelvin's firm when they were putting down the TransAtlantic cable line.  We think they immigrated to Nova Scotia where the cable landed - before 1906.

*  My grandfather: Peter William Carmichael would tell a story passed on through the generations of 7 Carmichael brothers that fought with Bonnie Prince Charlie.  We don't know who these brothers were-just that they were relatives.

The Carmichaels
Our Carmichaels were Septs of the Stewarts of Appin.  Finlay Carmichael (b: 1746 Tullichan, Locktayside), came from Ardtalnaig, Lochtayside and took the farm of Glenmaik in Glen Lednock in company with a man named Cameron.  Finlay took contracts for building dry stone dykes for all around the district, he was married three times. Finlay was my great, great, great, great grandfather.

Our Ancestry
Gilbert Carmichael was born April 7, 1717 and was the son of Finlay (b. Lochtayside, Perth, SCT) and Christine (?) who were both of Lochtayside.  Gilbert married Janet Sinclair and had the following children: Finlay (b: 1746 Tullichan, Lochtayside), Duncan (b: 1749 Tullichan),
Donald
(b: 1754 Tullichan).  We have no further information on Duncan or Donald.  Finlay (b:1746) married three times:

Finlay's 1st marriage was to:  Christian Cameron (bap: 27 May 1750 Glenmaik, Glen Lednock, Comrie, Perth, SCT), they were married 24 July 1778. Christian's parents were John Cameron and Katherine Morrison, Christian's siblings: Duncan (b: 23 Oct 1744), Donald (b: 20 Dec 1747).(Christian had an uncle named Hugh Cameron who was a known builder of mills in the area.   John Carmichael (b: 1782, d: 1866) worked with Hugh Cameron when there was such a scarcity of food in Scotland that they had to bleed the living cattle and cook the blood for food, he lived at Lawers Lochtayside and died in 1817 at the age of 112. Christians nephews and nieces were:  Hugh, John, Betty and Kate.   Finlay and Christian had the following children: Duncan (b: 1778 Glenmaik),  *John (b: 1782 Glenmaik)

Finlay's 2nd marriage was to:  Margaret Carmichael (m: 24 Jan 1790, Comrie & Killin), they had a daughter: Christian (b: 12 Dec. 1790). "Christian married a Ferguson of Connichan Farm in Glen Almond.  The Ferguson's were tenants of that farm from father to son for 500 years.  The last of them went out to the United States, their descendants are somewhere there yet."  from Annie Carmichael's letter found here:   "The Letters"

Finlay's 3rd marriage was to Catherine 'Katie' McLaren in 1803 Comrie.  (Katie was a widow with a son named James McWhannel)  Finlay and Katie had the following children: Archibald (b: 1804 Fintalach), Finlay (b: 1808 Fintalach), Margaret (b: 1808 Fintalach).  Finlay and Margaret were twins, Finlay went to live in Australia where he died there years later-never married.
